From the Garden
A fond childhood memory of mine is that of my mom harvesting the garden. She worked tirelessly all season from the moment she started the seeds in her earthy, warm greenhouse, to the day she dug every potato, shelled each pea pod and shook the dirt off of hundreds of onions. The smell of ripe tomatoes that overtook the counters as she peeled, stewed and canned was so sweet. The first handful of little garden carrots that my mom would bring in - their little hairs and patches of ingrained dirt didn't matter because we were too excited to get crunching that we did not care to wash them.
I love the beauty that can be found in each vegetable and plant. My goal of this series was to capture the imperfections or bits of ugliness that makes garden vegetables so enchanting.
